Relief through Hurricane Emily

Not many people are glad when hurricanes make landfall. They cause a lot of destruction. But here in central Texas, hurricanes in the Gulf of Mexico bring rain and cooler weather. It has been beautiful for the last couple days. I can finally send the kids out to play before 7pm and the evenings are downright cool. So we've been enjoying Hurricane Emily. BUt we hope that the people affected by the storm are recovering. Other news: I got called to be the first counselor in the young women organization on Sunday. I figured that since Nate had just been called to be Elders Quorum President that I would be off the hook as far as callings went. But the Lord proved me naive I guess. I am looking forward to this calling though. I have been really impressed by the Young Women of our ward. They are good girls. And now I know who to call when I need a baby sitter!! Aspen has created a cooking club with her friends in the neighborhood. So far they have made snickerdoodles. Very delicious. Nate has a new cooking hobby--homemade icecream. Good stuff -- but not for the waistline. So far we've tried fresh blackberry chocolate chunk swirl, fresh peach, rocky road, and chocolate peanutbutter cup icecream. The only hardship is making the ice cream disappear in time for Nate to make a new flavor. Not much else is happening. Still trying to get more sleep, the kids are bored, and we are counting down the days till we go to South Padre (glad we didn't go this week - Hurricane Emily hit 100 miles south of the island.) If anyone wants to come you are welcome to join us. It will be August 7 - 13. Enjoy the pics and have a great day. Summer vacation rocks!!!

Life's short -- read the ending first.

Toby claimed to be beyond Harry Potter. So when I bought the book last weekend, he said he didn't want to read it. Well I left it on the couch and it stayed there for a couple days. The next thing I know, Nate found him early monday morning, reading the last chapter. Toby says he wanted to see if it was worth reading. So now he is halfway through book 6. (However he hasn't finished book 5. He read them all in the second grade and didn't finish because he got scared. But he doesn't want to finish book 5 because he is beyond Harry Potter now.) That is why he is halfway through book 6. Aspen is upset that Toby read the ending first... she likes things done in the right order. I personally wouldn't read the ending first. But Toby doesn't like surprises...he likes to know what to expect. Besides, who says there is a right or wrong way to read a book!
