Hot to Trot

We saw Elvis!

Aspen and the Chuy's fish.

This weekend we all ran in the Chuy's Hot to Trot 5K. Nate ran with Aspen and Toby. I ran with Hazel and Isaac. The first mile of the race is all pretty steep uphill. Aspen and Isaac were on the lookout for water stations. Isaac sprinted to the finish as I tried to keep up. After it was over, Toby said it wasn't so hard (he was murmuring at the beginning.) The kids did a great job. I am very proud of them. Now they're ready to sign up for another one. I'm just tired.

M.A.P. Fair

Toby and Aspen are part of the GT program at school. During the second semester they create a project on any subject and make a presentation for a fair: The Murch---- Academic Project Fair.
Toby chose to do his project on the properties of light. (He has been preoccupied with his magnifiying glass and infrared light and burning all kinds of things during his spare time.) He also made a little laser to use as part of his demonstration. There were lots of boys and dads at his booth all night because of the laser.

Aspen chose to do her project on the artist George Seraut. She wants to be an artist when she grows up. She made a trivia board game to play to demonstrate what she learned. She handed out flyers and there were lots of kids playing her game. Her teacher commented to me that she is a great marketer to be able to generate so much interest in her topic.

I am proud of them both. They worked hard and did a great job!

Umlauf Sculpture Garden

I took my Activity Days girls to the Umlauf Sculpture Garden last weekend. It was a fun little fieldtrip and they had a good time. They liked all the animals and the religious art. However when it came to the nudes (which I hadn't realized there were any there) their only comments were "Oooo, Gross!"

Trend Setter

I saw these little gouchos in Hazel's size and couldn't resist.

Old Fashioned Fun

I was listening to the Great Brain stories last week and they talked about tin can stilts. Sounded like a great activity for Isaac. He had actually asked for regular stilts which Nate made for him, but they are more than a little difficult for him to use. These are a little easier. But he still needs more practice. He practiced a lot today. Maybe I should have used bigger cans - it might be better for the balance. Oh well, this will keep him busy.
