A while back I posted about Venus being close to the moon in the nighttime sky (Hazel had commented that "the moon has a friend."). This morning the moon and Venus were hanging out again, this time in the early morning. This time I got a photo using my telescope. If you look closely at Venus, you will see that it is crescent-shaped, just like the moon.
Didn't you say once that Venus is always near the horizon when you can see it, and that's because it's always closer to the sun than the Earth is? I still don't understand that.
ReplyDeleteI am still so amazed by space and Nate's telescope. It makes me want to get one too.
ReplyDeleteAmy, where you live, (nice and dark with no over-illuminated Walmart parking lots) the views would be fantastic.
ReplyDeleteThank-you for clearing up what this was! I pointed it out to the kids the other day, and was AMAZED by how bright it looked in the sky. I couldn't figure out if it was a new star fulfilling some prophecy I didn't know about or what :)
ReplyDeleteWe got Harry the Dad a telescope for Christmas 2 years ago - and we've gotten it out once!!
ReplyDeleteIt's not really great telescope watching conditions here in the SGV, but we could drive just a bit and be in the wilderness - I need to get inspired!
Got the telescope working again, huh?
ReplyDeleteNo, the auto-align still doesn't work. You don't need that to find the moon, however. Finding smaller stuff is tough. I'm just glad I found an excuse to get it out.
