That it's a felony to allow a chinese fire drill to occur in your car?
Yea, I didn't know that either -- until this morning. I picked the boys up from seminary and they thought it would be fun to do a drill at a light. I figured that it's a rite of passage being a teenager. I did it as a kid. There wasn't much traffic. So they did it. Then, they did it again at the next light; but unfortunately, there was a cop right behind us. (It was dark. I couldn't see it.) Twenty minutes later she let us off with a stern lecture on safety.
Thank heavens for her compassion. I'm still shaken. I could have been arrested!
I have actually only participated in one Chinese Fire Drill - back in fall of 1963 - near USC in fact - with my friend and a couple of crazy guys were had a double date with.
ReplyDeleteI thought it was very au courant and bold and sophisticated too!
But it does seem a bit unsafe when you think about it!
And I've certainly had tickets in the wee hours of the a.m. - driving to join my walking buddies - I think the police don't have much else to do at that hour, so now I'm very cautious - no more rolling California stops for me!
yikes! i never knew. So I'm guessing the lady that got out and got into her truck while sitting at a red turn signal was committing a fellony too. lol.
ReplyDeletewow.
ReplyDeleteNever knew that! Lucky you. :)
ReplyDeletei figured against the law, but a felony? that's a little extreme. Glad she just gave a lecture.
ReplyDeleteHeard about your rough morning...dropped off a present earlier, hope it helps make your day better!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the bread keri. It's my favorite.
ReplyDeleteAnd the felony is for child endangerment (4 counts) and a misdemeanor for unrestrained children (cause they got out of their seatbelts) (another four counts). I was getting a bit worried for a while. But it's a good story now that it all worked out.
Betsy, You must be the Great Purveyor of Chinese Fire Drills. My first one was in a car with you at the wheel. Boy was it a thrill. Next time just get the boys to start rocking side to side in the car at he stop light until the car is almost bouncing on its own ... that is always fun and I doubt a felony.
ReplyDeleteOh the things we find out much later in life that our children did.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a real blow hard pulled you over... I don't know how things work in Texas but out here that does not even come close to meeting the elements of child endangerment. Where I work that would have been laughed at by the DA and no charges would have been filed. She gave you a stern warning because she didn't have a leg to stand on. What was she doing for 20 minutes? Let me guess, standing at her vehicle looking at the Penal Code/Vehicle Code and realizing that there was nothing she could do but yell at you for not being a responsible adult. Sounds like a real turd in the punch bowl. I would have got on my loud speaker and cheered you on.
