Lake Tahoe Half

I finished!! I was faster than I thought: 2:57:13. Not super, but this is the first time doing a half marathon. Maddy, Karl and I had a great time. The weather was perfect. The first 10 miles were great. I accomplished those in 2 hours. The last 3 weren't so good and took almost an hour to do. The last 200 yards to the finish line were torture. I just wanted to lay down and cry (I waited for Maddy and found some water and then cried). I learned a lot of things doing this half marathon. First, I need to train a bit more to be able to get faster and be stronger at the end. Second, I'll remember to bring my camera to the starting line and then the race people bring it to the finish line. I was sad to not get any pics of the gorgeous Lake Tahoe. Third, sunscreen. Last and most importantly, I discovered that I could do this. I was so nervous. But I did it. And I'll do it again...just not anytime soon.

Next spring...start training...in 2 weeks (I've got to recover first).
Here's a map of the course.

  6. Congrats on finishing!! That's more than a lot of people can say!

I can totally identify with the last 3 miles thing--why are those so hard?! My problem was that I only trained to 10 miles, because all the stuff I read said that "adrenaline" would get me through the last 3. Yeah right! My time slowed way down after mile 10. Then I had to really push myself until the end. Then after crossing, I lay down on the grass, attempted to eat, and half-cried, half-gagged (didn't throw up, although I thought I would for a few hours after).

I'm glad you had a good time overall though. I love Lake Tahoe.

  7. Wow! I guess that running past Lake Tahoe would be a good motivation. It has to be one of my favorite places.
