I like this

I saw this article in a local magazine called Austin Monthly Home. This woman, Jennifer Prichard, is a local potter who creates some cool wall installations with these 3-D tiles. I really like them. Maybe Earl you could do something like this. Her work has been installed in The Herman Miller National Design Centers in New York and Dallas, private residences, and restaurants, and has been published in many design magazines. Anyway, I really like it and would put it in my house...when I get a really cool one...someday.

You can check out her website here that has other things she does.

Catch!!

We took the kids to the ball game tonight. It was nice and bearable, once the sun went down (only 95 instead of 102). We sat in the foul zone and the kids got lucky enough to get a ball! Then Isaac got one of the promotional balls that they threw out during the 7th inning stretch (you would have thought it was the highlight of his entire life!) Both Aspen and Isaac want to take their balls to school to show their class. It's so great that kids are satisfied with the small things in life.

Aspen and the game ball.
Hazel ate cupfuls of ice the whole game.
Toby isn't as bored as he looks, he's just 11.

BFF - Best Friends Forever

Isaac reads a book outloud to me for his homework. Today, Hazel got her own book, climbed on the couch, and "read" the book outloud too.

The other day Isaac took Hazel outside to sit in the sprinklers and watch the birds. I loved this picture - it seems that they are sharing some special little secret!

An unfortunate milestone

I had a rather sad experience today. Nate found a gray hair - my first one. I didn't believe him so he pulled it out for me to see. It was really gray. It was a sad, sad moment.

The score is

Nate: 140.35
Betsy: 129.28

I know, we don't seem to be getting anywhere fast on this competition. But I am catching up...I put in the last 29.28 miles in the last 10 days. I will pass Nate soon and will get my camera! Besides only 6 weeks left to train for the Lake Tahoe Half Marathon. It is definitely crunch time. (Is it possible to cram for a half marathon? I guess I'll find out soon!)

Today's laugh

Hazel says a few words like this and bird and mommy and daddy. Nate said that she was saying a few other things but I hadn't heard it yet.

This morning, 5:03 am:

Hazel, crying: "I want Mommy!"

She said it so distinctly and plaintively that I couldn't help laughing. What mom wouldn't rush to their baby with that kind of plea?

So I got up and warmed her up a bottle. By that time she had gone back to sleep. Unfortunately, I was now awake. (I have insomnia...it's a cruel world sometimes). So I tried to sleep, but just ended up with bad dreams.

Funny #2

I was running on my treadmill this morning while Aspen and Isaac were getting ready for school. Five minutes before we were supposed to leave, I hopped off the treadmill to remind them to get lunch money and brush their teeth.

I found them outside, shoes and socks off, running through the sprinklers (the golf course has these huge sprinklers that reach onto our patio). Needless to say, we had to change clothes before we could leave and were later than usual. I should have grabbed the camera.
