Back to school

Hazel finally started pre-K this last week.
She has been so excited to start.
This year she has two friends from church in her class.
Nice for me because Briton lives in our neighborhood and we are going to be car-pooling!

Can you spot the problem?

We have some tricksters among us... Sneaky kids...

You spin me right round, baby, right round

I was so excited to see that this park still had it's old fashioned playground equipment. Merry go rounds are one of the best toys ever! The kids had a lot of fun. I did too...until I tried to ride it while taking pictures. Got a little bit queasy. It was still just as fun as I remembered though.

Crystal Anniversary

That's for 15 years of marriage if you didn't know. Or the modern gift would be a watch.

I'm grateful for a terrific husband, whom I love to infinity and beyond!

I love to see the temple.... Idaho Falls edition

While we were in Idaho Falls, the primary in Jacob's ward took the primary children on a field trip to the Idaho Falls visitor's center. August's theme was about temples and I think most primaries asked families to take their children to a temple near them.

So we took everyone and had a tour of the grounds, watched a neat little movie in the visitor's center and took pictures.
In the visitor's center is a replica of the Christus statue. It is one the kids can actually touch. I really liked this picture of Hazel holding Christ's hand.

One of these days I'll print the pictures of the kids in front of the temple to hang on their bedroom wall.

Hanging out at the Cemetery

I like cemeteries. SLC cemetery is a cool place. My Dad would have Erika and I bring our flute and violin and we sing songs up there. Kind of a little wacky. Other people just bring flowers - we serenaded and caroled all the residents. (Hope they liked it.)
While we were in Utah, we stayed with Hannah and Maddy at their cute apartment in the Avenues in Salt Lake. One Sunday we walked up to the cemetery to visit my Grandma and Grandpa Kerksiek in the cemetery. Dad always told us that we needed to remember our family members that have gone before us. So we went to sit on their bench and look out at the beautiful view. I wanted to find some of the other relatives so we started looking around. We didn't ever find them. (I guess my memory isn't as accurate as I thought.) But while we walked back down through the cemetery to the park we found other interesting graves.
President Kimball is buried in the same block as Grandma and Grandpa. Another prophet is buried in the next block over. We found President David O. McKay's grave as we walked out. There were lots of interesting names on the headstones as well. (This part of the cemetery is pretty old.) This was my favorite.

Come to the Smart Side

Isaac ran for 5th grade student council last week. He wanted to do something with Darth Vader. So this is what we came up with. It's only 50 seconds so watch it - Isaac is pretty funny. (it's in the next post - you tube uploaded it directly, instead of on this post.) He did a great job. Short, sweet, memorable, and entertaining.

Of course he made it on the council.

Fab Finds

I found these two items at thrift stores this past week. Nate and I have never had a dresser in our 15 years of marriage - I've been looking a long time. I really liked the circles on the drawer fronts. It came with a mirror. So I need to figure out what to do with that. I already have a mirror in my room. It has a few dings/scratches. One day I may redo it, or paint it. But I really like it the way it is.
And I couldn't pass up the chair. Only $5! I originally thought I'd paint it some nice glossy bright color. But the oak cleaned up nicely and I'll recover the seat to something a bit more fun. I've got tons of fabric in my stash. And it fit nicely in the corner of my room.
