Happy Birthday to You, You Live in a Zoo

I had to get up early this morning so that I could be awake before Isaac. (He is a definite morning person.) Isaac asked for very practical presents this year: a new battery for his RC car and a new charger for his four wheeler. He also wanted a replacement yoyo. What a very practical little boy. Isaac had his friend sleep over the other night and that's when we had his cake: a turtle. We love Isaac a lot and he brings a lot of energy to our family.

Isaac found a new pool option. We had to wait for Hazel to wake up from a nap and Isaac just could not wait to cool off.

Gollum?

Click on the first picture to enlarge it and you will see why I thought that it was a little disturbing. Don't her eyes look like Gollum's? She was just enjoying her piece of red birthday crab cake. She really enjoyed it. I used that commercial grade red food coloring (that is some potent coloring). Click on the reunion photo link under Nate's family to see Nate's rendition of the photo (it's been altered a bit in photoshop).

What Kind of Cake Do You Want?

Today was Toby's 11th birthday! (I know, I can't believe it either!) He is really starting to grow up. He started off the day with breakfast in bed ( a tradition that I question the sanity of starting when it's 6:30 in the morning). Of course that's the best way to begin your special day. Toby got to have his friend come to play and spend the night.

Erika called to talk to Toby today and asked him what kind of cake he was going to have for his birthday. And laughing Toby told her that he was having a crab cake. When Erika got back on the phone with me she told me that she didn't get why Toby thought that was so funny. Well, if you know Toby, his favorite food is crab, in any form. When I asked him a couple of weeks ago what cake he wanted he told me crabcakes. (He seriously just wanted crabcakes (made from crab) instead of a cake that looked like a crab.) So when he talked to Erika he was laughing at the play on words.

Well, crazy mother that I am, I agreed to both kinds of crabcake and spent the whole day decorating a cake and then making gourmet crabcakes and pork chops for the birthday boy. You only get that kind of special treatment on your special day!

Toby designed the crab shaped cake including the idea for blueberry eyeballs!

On a side note: Hazel loved the crab cakes. She would take a bite and say "Mmmmmmmm" She also loved the birthday cake.

My Daddy is my Favorite Pal

Happy Father's Day to all the Dads!! We love you all. Here's Nate with his traditional breakfast in bed. Hazel was still sleeping. Nate actually woke up about an hour before this, but wisely stayed in bed. He is the best dad ever!

Daddy-Daughter Date

Last night we had our Daddy-Daughter pool party with my Activity Days girls. Only 3 of the 10 girls were able to come with their dads. But it turned out fun anyway. We made homemade icecream in a bag. It actually worked! I was surprised. (The recipe is on the recipe exchange blog.) The day started out stormy and cold...so I was worried. But the sun came out and the air warmed up (the water - not so much). So we had a great party.
