Imaginary Friends

Hazel has an imaginary friend. I just met her today. Apparently, Toby introduced them the other night while Hazel was invading his room when she was supposed to be in bed. I guess she was scared and Toby told her to find a protector. Hazel's friend is named Halinonykinny. She is a pink dragon who eats chicken nuggets.
Anyway, Hazel , her dragon, Toby and I went to lunch with Nate today. Toby tried to sit right next to Hazel in the booth we were seated at. Hazel was very upset that he was squishing her dragon. Nate and Hazel even did "whoop-di-doo" with the new friend on the way to the car. Then I shut the door before the dragon could get out of the car at at the store. I'd already locked the door, so we had to suggest to Hazel that her dragon was a trickey dragon who could melt through doors to get out of the car. Luckily, she bought it.

None of my children have had an imaginary friend before, so this is a new experience for me. Pretty cute, for the moment anyway. We'll see how long this lasts.

Setting off the alarms

I was a the blue target the other day and as I was walking into the store the inventory control alarms went off. I just ignored it because I was going in, not out. Anyway, I forgot all about it while I was shopping. Then when I walked out of the store, the alarms went off again. I finally figured out the problem, the pants I was wearing (which I bought at a different store about 8 months ago and have worn many times) still had an inventory control magnetic tag sewn into the side seam. I always forget to cut those out. But I can't believe that I've never set off the alarms before this. Oh well.

I still haven't gotten around to cutting out the tag.

I'm it.

I got tagged. So I'll play.
Seven weird things about me:

only photo I could find on nate's computer

  1. I love art/office supplies. I always have. I have a closet full of paper, markers, pencils, crayons, scissors, paper clips, etc. When I was in kindergarten we could bring our favorite christmas gift one day at school. I brought a pencil box full of supplies. Back-to-school is one of my favorite shopping seasons: lots of new paper pads, folders, pencil cases, etc.:)
  2. I eat my food in a certain order. Salad, then veggies, then starchy foods, then the meat, the bread last . That way, if I get full before I'm finished, at least I have eaten the parts that are healthiest. ALthough I have been known to pour gravy all over my vegetables, potates and meat and then I guess it's all not quite as healthy.
  3. I have to have time to myself every day or I can't sleep. I used to go to walmart at night to just walk around by myself and be where no one could ask me for anything.
  4. I can't sleep if I'm touching another person. So when I had tiny babies, or not so tiny toddlers in my bed, I don't ever sleep. Also the reason we have a king size bed. Nate has his part, I get the rest.
  5. I don't like to talk on the phone. I can't hear very well and I hate to keep asking the person I'm talking to to repeat themselves.
  6. My favorite/lucky number is 13.
  7. I have developed some phobias as I've gotten older. I'm claustrophobic. I have a fear of heights only when I'm driving a car on those reallllllly tall overpasses, I have anxiety attacks before I go to the dentist (which you'd think I'd get over since I go to the dentist 3 or 4 times a month - jaw problems), I have to check on Hazel and make sure she's breathing before I can sleep at night. (Interestingly, I don't feel compelled to check on the others, I know they're fine.) This has actually improved. When she was a tiny baby (for the first 9 months) I had to check on her multiple times (4 or 5) every night. Didn't help the insomnia problem.

I'm sure there are more weird things. But this tag was just for seven.

Creating

I loved President Uchtdorf's talk last night at the Relief Society General Conference. I especially liked his comments about creativity. That it is a godlike attribute that we should strive to emmulate. That creating something of worth brings satisfaction and fullfillment and a fullness of joy.

I recently rearranged my house and moved my sewing/project stuff downstairs and now I use it more. Here are a few of the things I've been creating lately:

Matching skirts for the girls. (they are also reversible to the fabric that shows on the hem. ) Super easy and fun to make.

This is a top that I started for Hazel last spring. Alas, by the time I finished it, Hazel had grown too big. So, hopefully it will fit Katanya. The owl fabric was one of my favorites. Click here to see it on Katanya. ( we posted at the same time on the same topic without knowing!)

I love sewing and it makes me happy. I've been working on a bunch of other things. I'll have to get pictures to show you. Now, I've got to get back to emmulating.
