I spy with my little eye

After watching Isaac squint all summer, all the while assuring me that he could see just fine, I dragged him to the eye doctor and got him some glasses.
Isaac says, "Now it will be easier to play I Spy!"
He was amazed at how much better life is when it's not blurry.

I want to hold your hand

Hazel and I went shopping with my mom last week when she was here. Hazel did a good job of keeping herself entertained. I looked over and she was holding hands with the mannequins! She did this for about 5 minutes. Just stood there and held her hand.

NYC part 3

So this is the last of the NYC posts.

We took the kids to see Mary Poppins. The boys were a little reluctant when we told the what we were seeing. "Kind of girly and little kiddish". But it was fabulous! Great sets and singing and we all were enthralled. We did consume an entire box of gummy treats to keep Hazel from being too noisy. If you get a chance to see Mary Poppins, it is well worth the price.

We went to Ellis Island and I was able to find some Kerksiek's that came through. I thought it was pretty cool.

This is the famous Bull near Wall Street. We opted for a photo op in front of the bull, rather than the other end (which quite a few other people were taking).

The American Museum of Natural History. Very cool museum. We spent about 4 or 5 hours there. Unfortunately, it was field trip day for many other day cares. So it was a little noisy and crowded. We just tried to stay out of their way.
These pictures are in the bio-diversity exhibit. This was my favorite exhibit. There were so many things to see. The kids really liked it too. Toby knew what most of the creatures were too!

Gems and minerals. Isaac spent the whole time here looking for the diamonds. I like his mohawked silhouette in this one!
Also like this thermal camera. Can you tell who was in the picture?

We rode the subway a lot. It was hot and muggy and a lot of blocks to walk, so the train was a nice break.
We rode the Ferris Wheel in Toys "R" Us. The cars were all little kid themed. Toby only wanted to ride if he could get in a non-girlie/kiddie car: like barbie or care bears.
Times Square
We ate at the Carnegie Deli. Good sandwiches, really big too!
I wish we could have gone to a taping. But a walk-by was it for this trip.
Well, the trip was awesome. We will definitely need to go back. There were quite a few things that didn't get seen or done. So we'll save it for next time. I think we'll fly though. 6 days of driving was 4 days too many. We could have used those four days in NYC instead of the car. But it is all an experience and we got to see so much of America.

You've been punk'd

Someone in our family is quiety playing little pranks on us. Last month I found a quarter superglued to the bathroom floor. I was cleaning the bathroom and tried to pick it up. Tried is the word here. No one would claim responsibility though.
Then, over the past couple weeks, Nate has been finding his socks severely mismatched. Nate first accused me of not paying attention when I fold his socks. Now, I admit that I have been rather sleep deprived and might have mismatched his socks once. But I have since found 4 other pairs of mismatched socks while I am putting the laundry away, and I know that I didn't do it. And since the mismatch is one of Nate's gym socks paired with one of Toby's gym socks (a big size difference, BTW) I think that Toby must be our prankster. Toby has also mismatched Nate's dress socks: 2 different prints and another time pairing Nate's dress sock with Toby's dress sock. Nate suffers through his workouts with the little sock, but had to go to walmart to buy new socks after he tried to dress at the gym for work. Little kid dress socks just don't stretch that much.
Now I think this is really funny. ALthough, I suppose I can understand why Nate isn't too pleased (not funny when he is trying to get to an important meeting with Dell head honchos). But it is still funny. And I am especially impressed because Toby is trying to figure out a social skill. Kids with Asperger's have a hard time knowing how and when to do pranks and don't have a very good sense of humor. Mostly it is figuring out appropriateness and when to stop. But I think that Toby is catching on here. It is a subtle prank and I love it! I'm sure Nate will think it's funny at some later date.

New York, New York

Nate keeps bugging me to get the rest of our NYC trip documented. So here it is, part 2 in no order whatsoever...(there will probably be a part 3 sometime in the near future.)
I wish we had a better picture of Isaac's mohawk. It was pretty impressive I must say.

The whole week we were in New York, people would try to surreptitiously take pictures of Isaac and his blue mohawk. One guy followed Isaac around for 5 minutes trying to get a good picture (it was kind of a low-lit exhibit and Isaac never sits still). A lot of people offered comments, especially little old ladies. (They liked it and were impressed that we allowed it.) One guy said Isaac was the youngest punk he'd ever seen. This guy asked to have his picture taken as a fellow mohawk wearer.

Isaac's hair didn't even move in the wind aboard the ferry to The Statue of Liberty.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art.

This art piece was really cool at the Met. It was a concave stainless steel mirror. It was created out of little hexagonal pieces that each reflected part of you, like those faceted kaleidoscope toys. We were entertained for 20 minutes!
The boys' favorite exhibit was the arms and armour room.

We got a bird's eye view of the city from the top of the Empire State Building.

The MoMA. One of my favorite museums. Aspen says she wants one of these benches as the bed in her room. It was comfortable, but I don't know if it was that comfortable.

Catching up

Sorry for the the lack of posts this last week. I've been a little busy. But Nate has been bugging me to get caught up with the blogging.

We were glad to have Mom and Axel come to visit. We don't get to see them as often as we'd like to. But we really enjoy them when they are here.
I think that Axel is pretty photogenic. But I couldn't get him to sit long enough to take more than a couple of pictures. And Axel hardly ever smiles (I think it is a common trait among my brothers.) But there were some good pictures anyway.
