My kids have been reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory for the past month. So today we are going to see the new movie. They are very excited. They liked the book so much that they are now reading Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator. I like that they are making movies from all these great books. It motivates my children to read the book first so that they can see the movie. Next on the list is Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and the Chronicles of Narnia.
Aaron finished the book yesterday as well and we took him to go see it. Wonderful movie.
ReplyDeleteCloser to the book that the Gene Wilder one (sans the ending and the flashbacks).
I actually prefer this version to the old one.
Tim Burton is a brilliant filmmaker.
Hope you enjoyed it to.
I liked it too - thought it was pretty true to the spirit of the book and Roald Dahl. I loved Deep Roy - what a brilliant touch. The whole dentist thing was right on target too. Tim Burton just really knows how to make a movie doesn't he? Eliza wrote a pretty good review of it on her blog. But Big Harry did fall asleep during the film I think - he's pretty tired - from all that late-night Harry Potter reading!
ReplyDeleteI like Tim Burton. ANd having Danny Elfman do the music was genius. It gave it a bit of darkness that fit the setting. The kids of course want to buy the movie when it comes out on DVD.
