Sticks and Stones May Break My Bones

Toby fell off of his bike on the way home from school today and broke his arm. (As his forearm was bent the wrong way, I was sure it was broken.) Fortunately, we were near the home of one of Isaac's friends. His mom stored our bikes and drove us home and then watched Isaac and Aspen while I took Toby to the ER. They were nice and took Toby in right away, even though there were 45 people in the waiting room waiting to be seen. He broke both the bones in his forearm. Toby was very brave, especially while they reset it. It was an unfortunate beginning to summer, but Toby is taking it in good spirits and with lots of pain killer.

  1. That's too bad for Toby. How long will he be in the cast? How long 'till you guys are all out of school?

  2. Just a splint for now. They won't put a cast on for a couple days due to potential swelling. We'll have to see if we can at least get a photo of the x-rays (the ones before they set his bones). He started feeling much better once they set his bones--that and the Ben & Jerry's.

  3. I hope this doesn't become the theme for this summer - first Olivia, then Toby...

  5. School is out next wednesday. We are going to try and get a waterproof cast so that he can still do things like shower. Unfortunately the fifth grade swim party is next week. We are going to the beach in two weeks. He was going to have a pool party for his birthday. Hopefully the cast will come off before we leave for vacation. I was a little scatter-brained and didn't take any before pictures (besides, I don't think Toby would have appreciated that). But I do want to get the xrays. He is doing much better. Thanks for all the support.

  6. I feel for you Toby! I have been through the same thing. Meds do wonders too!

The good news is, is that most specialists and doctors so waterproof casts. At least they did for McKay awhile back. Hopefully it doesn't slow you down too much though.

  7. Nate here--Toby definitely didn't want photos taken of his mangled arm, but I will have x-ray photos up later tonight.
